Day 8: Prairie City to Baker City, 45.5 miles, 3675 ft of ascent. One sag assist.

Today was a day of uphill climbs

and downhill coasts.

We left behind the dry scrub brush and climbed to the pine forest.

And another summit!

The TransAm trail plan for today called for 3 summits and 3 glorious downhills.  Because of impending HOT weather and no rest days for 8 days, we opted to have Sag driver Lesli meet us at the base of the first descent to cart us to the final summit for a wonderful 30 mile downhill ride!  A strong headwind kept us cool, but working hard towards the end.  We were thrilled to end up at one of the best Airbnbs yet!  Scarlet Begonia in Baker City!   Oh, and the anticipation of a much needed rest day!
