Day 1: Florence to Junction City, OR - 62 mi, 1,500' elevation

Our first official day began early as we left a foggy and overcast Florence.  Riding up the Siuslaw River Valley we got off busy Rt 126 unto a winding and some what less traveled road.  The towering moss covered trees kept us cool as we climbed two big elevation gains.

The "superman" barn was a pleasant stop before climbing Low Pass.
A rumbling waterfall was a welcome rest stop along the way.

Thanks to the World Track Championships taking place in Eugene, there was no hotel to be found within an 1 hour drive (except for a $600/night room at the Days Inn).  We stayed in a local campground along Fern Lake and were treated to a jam session thanks to Suzanne, Pete and Lesli who brought along their guitar and stand up bass.  A great first day to our epic bike adventure!

  1. I wish I could have heard it! You can keep the riding up hills, though.
