September 11 and 12; Rainy Days and Mondays

We woke up on Sunday morning in Greenville to a steady rain.  This was bound to happen as Sue B. (one of the 3 rain dodgers in our group, along with Betsy and Pete) had left the group. Boo!

Undeterred, the 3 remaining riders packed up the car and headed  out toward our next overnight stop in Effingham IL.  We almost made it  on I70 before a huge accident brought traffic to a complete halt.  Boo #2!  After some discussion we opted to risk a large ticket and possible arrest and drove our trusty car across the center divider and headed back on our way. Yay!

In short time we made it to our meager night's lodging. The gorgeous 3 story lake house belonging to Nanci (the sister of our very own Lesli). As we spread out in our queen rooms, screen porch overlooking the lake , gourmet kitchen and private boat house we contemplated how tough our lives were. Yay! After some reading, laundry, and a well deserved nap, we drove to a local restaurant enjoy a dinner out with Nanci's husband Stan.  Linguini with shrimp and crayfish, seared grouper in an Asian buerre blanc and New York strip steak. The best meal of the trip so far! and a great evening of conversation with Stan.

Monday it was time to hit the road on bikes again.  Lisa and I set off for our lunch stop of Greenup. The road was flat and decent , traffic was light , AND we finally had a 15 MPH tailwind.  We flew down the road at 19 MPH barely needing to pedal. We crossed a rebuilt wooden covered bridge and rode into town where Betsy had scouted out a great picnic spot for lunch.

Thats when we realized that an addition to being bike riders, we were also kleptomaniac's. For right there with our bread and cheese was Nanci's French press coffee pot. SO after lunch Betsy and I headed on east while Lisa (who admitted that she was the thief) returned to the lake house to replace the pilfered property before the police pursuit.

Shortly thereafter Bets and I arrive in the LITTLE town of Casy IL. A little town with BIG THINGS!!

The world's biggest things!!

                                                           Worlds biggest rocking chair
                                                           worlds biggest birdcage
                                                            worlds biggest barbour pole
                                                                worlds biggest mailbox

After exploring all the wonders of Casey and enjoying a well deserved espresso, we checked into the most unique hotel of our trip on the 3rd floor of a 150 year old hotel building.

Out to dinner at a local farm restaurant  (AND home to, you guessed it,  the world's largest pitchfork) before returning to our digs for hot fudge sundaes from dollar general and a good night's sleep.

till tomorrow.  ZZZZ
