Bike Date 0907.22 to 0908.22 Last Days on planet Missouri
After leaving the Final Frontier of Washington, Missouri, we continued down familiar feeling trails. Crickets and grasshoppers and cicadas all doing their thing. A couple of snakes hung out on the trail today. And another turtle. Surprise! White dust on our bikes. Beautiful homes and green fields before us. More of the same. Missouri is a beautiful state.
Captain Pete and first mate Betsy kept our transporter vehicule moving closer to today's final destination: Saint Charles. On our journey, one of our former questions was answered about Daniel Boon:
We flew through 36 miles today in two hours and forty minutes. The vegetation looks great in these parts. No wonder people settled here. The valley we rode through today was lush and expansive! I'm thinking that upstate N.Y. farmers would be envious of this crop of Soybeans. Wow!
We arrived in Saint Charles pretty early as it was a short ride today. After the usual unpacking of the car and redistribution of luggage, we settled in to our new lodging. Nice digs! I am constantly amazed at the work that goes into planning and reserving the lodging on this trip. A special thanks and kudos to all who participated in planning the lodging. It is no easy feat as a good part of securing a place is guestimation. Will it be in a nice section of town? Are the pictures of the place true to reality? Will it be 5 miles out of town? Is this a town? Will the lodging have all of the accouterments that were listed in the advertisement? You just don't know until you get there. I for one am grateful for all of the work that goes into reserving the lodging. Even when the lodging wasn't what we had hoped for, I was grateful for a place to sleep. It's all good. Thank you lodging planners!
Lisa getting advice from Daniel
We shopped at several boutiques, had a coffee at a nice café, and later in the evening had a wonderful BBQ at the Salt and Smoke restaurant. Excellent food!
We have a rest day before Lisa, Betsy and Pete: the 3 Mousquetaires who are still biking on, continue their journey east. I am going to miss the daily morning rush: getting dressed, drinking coffee, cramming some food in, packing the car, getting out the door to ride! And the 6 hours of being outside watching this beautiful country unfold before us... I will miss that too. And my wonderful, kind, sharing friends who make me proud to be human. The philosophical conversations, the sharing of common concerns, the constant learning and awe. The laughing. The sharing. The camaraderie.
This trip has been epic for me without a doubt. Thank you for including me and I can't wait to hear the tales of your future escapades! I will be reading your blogs.
Love you guys!!!
We love you Sue B! We will miss you dearly. 💜
