Day 6 Mitchell to Dayville

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20TH

Well, we left the sleepy little dusty town of Mitchell early to get a good start on the considerable 8 mile climb to the top of Keyes Cr. Summit. Thinking about that little town was a way to help churn away the miles: Wim, the cool dude from the Netherlands, the community store with an incredible supply of everything you could possibly need from fish hooks to bubble gum, the interesting artifacts of humanity strewn about the town...our accomodations at the Little Pine Lodge, and friendly people! Keep peddling...
The trek to the top was arduous but at the top, 4,369 feet, we were all smiles! You know what lies ahead: down hill through Rocky Canyon. We can bike for miles and miles and miles and miles of tuuuuuurrrnnnnsss! Oh Yeah! I wonder if Lauran has that song on her music list?

We had one little snafu part way through our descent. Lisa blew out a tire! Thankfully, Betsy knew the dollar bill trick. And let's face it, luckily they had a dollar bill! I'm thinking a credit card might not work. But the dollar bill did!!! Thank you Betsy!!! We were so relieved to see the two of them biking around the corner....phew!

As the heat was cranking up, we were churning on...with one small 4 mile round trip detour to the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center. Well worth the visit!!! Very informative movie (and not for nothin, an airconditioned building). The explanation of Painted Hills and the Clarno Unit was enough food for thought for the next several miles push to Dayville. Allons-y!

Arrived in Dayville by noon to Lesli's famous tuna salad just waiting to be enjoyed. Yum! We each trickled in on our own time...to the Fish Inn and RV park! What a cool place!  We ended the amazing day in good company,  playing in a local creek with crawfish everywhere...must be they don't do crawfish boils in this town...and finally enjoying a great dinner by the chef extraordinaire Lesli! What a great day! I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
